CHAT's Food Program
Our food program gets donations from local businesses and food banks and delivers them to residents in need.
CHAT has operated a food program for CHAT-property residents since 2018. In that time it has become a lifeline resource for many residents. We get enough food donations to distribute a box of food to each of the CHAT-managed houses every week.
How it works:
Volunteers receive or pick up excess dry goods and produce and meats and breads from Trader Joe's and other vendors and organizations every week, as well as from the Contra Costa food bank once a month and the Chico Blue Bag food project every other month.
They sort the items and bag them up.
Then they deliver the bags of food to each of the CHAT-managed residences.
When we started this project in 2018, it delivered to fifteen residences. We now deliver to over fifty residences. We started the program because residents told us it was hard to find enough food, and residents have expressed that this resource is incredibly helpful to them. The volunteer effort has created its own community of people who want to give back and make Chico a better place to live. Your donations to CHAT help us cover the food storage space and the gas and liability coverage for the volunteers.
