CHAT News: Brews for housing, Get your flapjacks and props from our representatives

We never stop creating affordable housing options for folks in Chico.

Greetings, to our wonderful supporters!

Chico Housing Action Team is all about collaboration and how we can best work together with our community partners. I recently had the privilege of giving a presentation to a group of students in Community Action Volunteers in Education (CAVE) on how CHIP (Community Housing Improvement Program) and CHAT support housing solutions in our community. We hope to encourage young volunteers to give back to their communities, and maybe even inspire a few in their career paths. Did you know CHIP started with a group of volunteers at CAVE 50 years ago? That's right, this amazing community partner has been improving Chico and beyond for half a century! Wonderful work is happening in our community, and it's always a pleasure to share the good news. Speaking of newsworthy things, we have a huge announcement for our supporters. Plus, don't forget about our events, including a fun one happening today! Read on!

Brews for housing tonight!

Brews Day: Head to Ramble West Brewing today (Thursday, March 28) to drink a few cold ones in support of local, affordable housing solutions!

Between 4 and 8 p.m., CHAT board member Lizzy Young (pictured) will be pouring beers, and all of the tips she receives during her shift will be donated to CHAT! So, belly up to the bar and order from Lizzy to support the amazing work of the Chico Housing Action Team!

Ramble West is located at 849 West 8th Street in Chico. See you there!

Big news!

Potential project alert! CHAT has been selected as the recipient of a $15.3 million Community Care Expansion grant, which furthers our longtime plans to construct a 66-unit affordable housing village in West Chico.

Currently, to determine the feasibility of the project, CHAT is seeking construction financing, as well as the necessary matching funds.

The vision for this housing village includes (potentially) LEED-certified homes within an accessible community that provides supportive services for disabled individuals, veterans, and others who would otherwise be homeless.

Get your flapjacks!

Pancake party: We're officially just days away from Pancakes for CHAT!

This Sunday, March 31, is our annual Easter morning pancakes fundraiser! We'll be serving up flapjacks (plus scrambled eggs, sausage, and fruit!) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Don't miss out on this once-a-year, family-friendly event, which includes an egg hunt and opportunities to get a picture with the Easter Bunny!

Do you have your tickets? Click here (or scan the QR code below) to purchase them.

Shop the Co-op!

Round it up: This April, be sure to round up your purchases in support of the Chico Housing Action Team while you shop at the Chico Natural Foods Co-op.

All you have to do is ask your cashier to please "round-up!" What that means is you'll be donating up to the nearest dollar, and that spare change will be donated to CHAT for our efforts to better the community through sustainable, affordable housing solutions.

We are so appreciative of Chico Natural Foods for choosing CHAT as April's Round Up partner! If you don't regularly shop there, please visit this wonderful downtown shop located at 818 Main St.

They have great products, including amazing produce, as well as fantastic customer service.

CHAT recognized!

Props from our representative: CHAT was excited to receive a Certificate of Recognition from state Assemblyman James Gallagher, who represents District 3, which includes Butte, Glenn, Placer, Sutter, Tehama, and Yuba counties.

The honor is the result of CHAT being named Nonprofit Business of the Year by the Chico Chamber of Commerce.

While this certificate was delivered to CHAT, we in turn want to share this recognition with everyone in the community who has helped shape CHAT over the past decade. This includes our many dedicated volunteers, community partners, and donors. Thanks to you, CHAT has grown into a well-respected nonprofit doing great things to change lives and better the community.

Sneak peek!

CHAT tales: Some of CHAT's donors may already have received our Housing Action newsletter in the mail. For those who haven't, never fear—it's now our website.

What's inside this latest edition? For starters, color! We're no longer printing in just black and white. What else is new? The newsletter is slimmed down to four pages (from eight), but it's still chock-full of great stories about CHAT happenings. Like what? We'll give you a few hints:

As you can see from the top of the front page (pictured), there is a story about a resident. It's a moving and powerful one about a woman who endured years on Chico's streets. What is Harmony Forever? Could that be about the purchase of Harmony House? Find out!

Click here to check out the full newsletter. Happy reading!
