Congratulations to the League of Women Voters of Butte County for hosting a terrific forum on rental housing last Saturday in Chico. They brought together a wide array of advocates from a local tenants union, the county housing agency, a property owner's association, and a legal services agency, with League member Andy Holcombe moderating the panel They discussed some very interesting possibilities for creating low-income housing in our county, like creating social housing with one-time investments from local governments and housing zoning law changes. Shown here is Meleiza Figueroa of the Tenants Union organizing Committee, who spoke about making county and city zoning changes to more easily allow for low-income folks to create their own housing arrangements.
